LNG Supplies for Asian Markets Conference (LNGA 2011)

Global LNG production increased by nearly 25% (21 million tonnes) in the first six months of 2010 but, contrary to expectations, markets were found for the extra production without any additional cargoes having to be delivered to the USA, which offered the lowest netbacks. Nearly half the additional production was imported into Asian markets as the demand of the established buyers in Japan, Korea and Taiwan recovered strongly and China continued to increase its imports. The only decline in imports was in India. Asia’s increased demand was met mainly through the build-up of production from new liquefaction trains in the Pacific Basin and in the Middle East and imports from Atlantic basin producers remained subdued. The growth in demand is expected to continue over the next decade as China expands its imports and Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia become importers. Australia has the potential to satisfy much of the additional demand with over 100mtpa of new capacity is being planned. The rise in the oil price from the low levels of 2009 has increased average LNG prices in 2010 to over $10/MMBtu for most Asian buyers but spot prices have been at a discount to oil-related prices. As yet, that has not put the same pressure on long-term contract prices as it has in Europe . Conference Connection is pleased to announce the sixth LNG Supplies for Asian Markets Conference (LNGA 2011) which will address key issues for the Asian and wider global LNG market in depth. Following the success of LNGA 2005-2010 which attracted a total of over 750 participants from 25 countries worldwide, this year’s conference will provide continuing insights into the challenges and opportunities for the LNG industry over the next decade with an emphasis on Asian markets, which still account for over 60% of global imports.
