MPGC 2011 marked the eighth occasion that MPGC is being held in Dubai, with the Emirates National Oil Company Limited (ENOC) LLC as host and with the gracious Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai

The 19th Annual Middle East Petroleum & Gas Conference (MPGC), the longest running annual oil conference in the Middle East organised by The Conference Connection Inc, was successfully held in Dubai on October 2-4 2011, after having been re-scheduled from its earlier April 2011 dates in Bahrain.

The conference was inaugurated on the morning of 3 October 2011 by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Council Energy, President of the Department of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Group, Dubai, UAE with Welcome Remarks were delivered by Mr. Saeed Khoory, CEO of ENOC. The Ministerial Address of H.E. Mohamed bin Dhaen Al-Hamli, Minister of Energy, UAE was delivered by Mr. Ali Obaid Al-Yabhouni, UAE Governor for OPEC, General Manager of ADNATCO-NGSCO
 
Mr. Mark Carne, Executive VP-Middle East & North Africa and Country Chairman, Dubai & Northern Emirates, Shell Upstream International delivered the Keynote Address on Middle East Gas in Changing Times, followed by a Special Address on Iraq oil plans by Former Minister of Oil – Iraq, Mr. Issam A.R. Al-Chalabi.
 
MPGC 2011 HIGHLIGHTS
 
Over 30 presentations were featured on the MPGC agenda based on the theme: High Oil Prices, Political Crisis & Emergence of a New Market Structure.
  • Nearly 300 delegates from more than 35 countries worldwide, attended the 19th annual MPGC.
  • The Keynote Address on the 2nd day was delivered by Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, Former U.S. Ambassador for Iraq, Afghanistan, and the United Nations on “Iraq’s Economic, Political, and Security Outlook: Implications for the Development of Iraq’s Hydrocarbon Sector.”
  • Three presentations on the oil and gas industry in Iraq were made by Mr. Issam A.R. Al-Chalabi, Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and Dr Jennifer Coolidge, covering Iraq’s oil and exploration activities and plans for its gas reserves in domestic and international markets, which lead to lively debates and discussions on the role of Iraq. CNN later recorded a roundtable on Iraq issues with Dr Issam A.R. Al-Chalabi and Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, MPGC Co-Chairman.
  • For the first time in its 18th year history, MPGC agenda featured two sessions on Natural Gas & LNG Roundtable. The panel was made of presenters and commentators representing buyers, sellers and key producers of LNG/gas in the region including Mr. David Wells of Shell Gas & Power International, Mr. Breck Bacon of ExxonMobil, Mr. Jamal E. Al-Loughani of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Rosario Sgarioto of Gazprom Global LNG, Mr. Shahriar Fesharaki & Mr. Robert Smith of FACTS Global Energy, Dr. Dawood Nassif of Bapco, and Mr. Hesham Ali Mustafa of ENOC.
  • Delegate response once again rated premium networking opportunities and an industry-tailored programme as their key reasons for attending, making MPGC a key vehicle for industry interaction on an annual basis.
  • ENOC hosted the gala dinner on 3rd October in a casual setting which was attended by nearly 200 guests and provided informal networking opportunities.
  • MPGC 2011 welcomed ABN AMRO Bank, Bahrain National Gas Company, Dubai Mercantile Exchange, ExxonMobil, RAK Petroleum, Rais Hassan Saadi Group, and Vitol as sponsors, including Al-Ghurair Energy, Petro Rabigh, and Natixis as first time sponsors.These companies provided the conference with a strong delegate base of senior executives and synergistic client relationships.

MPGC is held annually in conjunction with the Annual Middle East Petroleum & Gas Week (MEOW), with a series of two-day events on specialised subjects held during the week with MPGC as the anchor event. MEOW events have been developed to cater to specialised information needs of delegates, and to optimise their time.
