The 7th Annual Base Oil and Lubes Middle East Conference (BLM 2018) and Post-Conference Workshop (Changing Base Oil Quality and Its Impact on Formulations) were organized by Conference Connection in Dubai, UAE from 25-26 April 2018. Eng. Salem Ahmed Darwish started his career with Dubai Natural Gas (DUGAS) in 1992 as Process Engineer. In a period of 14 years, he has been promoted to Operations Manager. During his tenure with DUGAS, he was responsible for handling import and export gas operations, maintenance schedules and dealing with safety policies of DUGAS. In 2008 for a career changeover, he joined ADNOC DISTRIBUTION to manage ADNOC lubes plant as Lube & Grease Plant Department Manager. He is acknowledged person in the GCC Lube industry for lube operations and technical matters. Focused sharply in day to day management in product manufacturing cost effectively, judicious Base oil, additives selections for ADNOC lube oil formulations. In 2012, he was promoted to Vice President, Production Plants Division to monitor overall functions of LPG bottling and lubes manufacturing Divisions.

His 23 years’ experience in oil and gas industry in UAE is more valuable for oil industry particularly for ADNOC.

Undergraduate in CHEMICAL & PETROLEUM ENGINEERING from UAE University, married with 5 children.

Geeta S. Agashe (President of Geeta Agashe & Associates, LLC), is a globally renowned and recognized expert in the entire finished lubricants value chain including lubricant basestocks (paraffinic, naphthenic, aromatic, Gas-To-Liquid, bio, as well as synthetic), lubricant and fuel additives, finished lubricants (automotive and industrial), waxes (both petroleum and synthetic incl. Prior to starting her own consulting firm in 2015, Geeta spent 19+ years heading the global Energy Practice of Kline & Company, Inc. based out of their headquarters in NJ, USA. She has also worked at KPMG in their Management Consulting Division, PTC International in their Gasoline Division, and Bharat Petroleum in their Lubricants Marketing Division.

She is a reputed speaker and thought leader having presented and chaired at numerous Conference Connect, ICIS, Asian Fuels & Lubes, AFPM, STLE, NLGI, UEIL and other leading industry conferences. Geeta is a sought after leader and quoted in all important industry publications including LubesNGreases, Fuels & Lubes Asia, Infineum Trends, Chemical Reporter, LubesReport and others. Dr. H E Henderson

K&E Petroleum Consulting, LLC

Dr H. Ernest Henderson received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Windsor in 1977, after which he spent 19 years with Imperial Oil and Exxon in technical and managerial positions involving Research, Marketing, Logistics and Technical Services at the domestic and International levels. In 1997, Dr Henderson joined Petro-Canada as Manager and senior scientist for their Group III development. He later joined Syntroleum Corporation as Research Director for their Gas-to-Liquids upgrading programs, converting F-T wax into synthetic base oils and lubricants.

Other key roles held by Dr Henderson included Technical Manager for YUBASE Group III base stocks and R&D Manager for CITGO. In 2011, Dr Henderson re-launched his consulting company, K&E Petroleum Consulting LLC. His broad range of base oil expertise, including Group I, Group II, Group III, Group IV (PAO), GTL and re-refined, their production and their application with finished lubricants has provided an excellent background for his new role. His company operates on a national and international basis, and specializes in several areas including but not limited to base stock management and strategic planning, new product development, Supply Chain management and formulation cost control, raw materials sourcing, training and legal due diligence.

Dr Henderson is a Fellow of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers and the Chemical Institute of Canada. He has been involved with BLM since its inception in 2012, the co-moderator of the ICIS Pan-American Base Oils & Lubricants Conference since 2006, and moderator of the AFPM (American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers) Base Oils and Waxes Conference during the same period.

Mr. Alexandre Gendron

Mr Alexandre Gendron joined Chevron Oronite in 2013 as a product line specialist where he specialises in industrial and specialities lubricant additives until 2016.

He is currently Global Marine Product Line Specialist at Chevron Oronite where he manages product line portfolio; commercialization of new products; customer support; profitability management and product life cycle recommendations.

Mr Alexandre Gendron holds both a Mechanical Engineer degree from ENSMA and a Master of Science degree from IFP-School (French Petroleum Institute) on fuels and lubricants. Mr Gendron also has 7 years of Powertrain Engineering experience in the Automotive Industry.

Ms. Sushmita Dutta

Ms Sushmita Dutta is a project manager in the Energy Practice at Kline & Company. She is based in Kline’s India office and works on the company’s syndicated market research reports in the areas of finished lubricants, lubricant basestocks, used oil and re-refined lubricants, waxes, and lubricant additives.

Sushmita’s responsibilities at Kline include analyzing downstream specialty products markets in various countries and preparing comprehensive syndicated and custom reports with both qualitative and quantitative insights. Her assignments at Kline include syndicated studies on the lubricants market of North America and the Middle East, global motorcycle oil market, global white oils market, lubricant used in specialty applications such as wind turbines and other industrial specialties.

She has worked for some of the leading oil and gas clients in the lubricants industry and has conducted research segments in different geographical markets including North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Sushmita has a work experience of almost 10 years in the research and consultancy industry. Prior to joining Kline, she worked as a business analyst with Evalueserve, where she was part of a dedicated research group for an international oil and gas company. Sushmita holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration, with a specialization in Oil and Gas and a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics.

Mr. John Coxon

John Coxon & Associates Ltd

A mechanical engineer by profession, John worked on advanced engines for many years before coming into contact with engine lubricants when at MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association) he was involved in evaluating some of the early 0W-20 formulations for bearing wear performance. Moving to Jaguar Cars in 1998 to evaluate new engine concepts, he was soon given the task of looking after engine lubricants before eventually leaving to pursue a career in technical writing. Following eight years in the literary world, in 2012 he was invited back to Jaguar Land Rover to mastermind their engine oil strategy, a position after which he “retired “ in March 2018 to brush up on his anecdotes and other activities.

Apart from engines and his love of English history, by combining the two, John’s other passion is his hands on involvement with historic motor sport.

Mr. Denis Varaksin

Denis is in the base oils and slack wax business since 2009, focusing on supplies from Russia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Today Denis leads base oils and slack waxes project in Germany-based trading firm DYM Resources and has multiple publication in industries leading magazines about ex-USSR base oils market.

His focus is export of base oil Group I, II and III, slack waxes, paraffin and petrolatum from Russia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to Europe, Turkey and Africa. Prior that Denis was business developing manager and trader with German MOGoil, Swiss trading firm Integral Petroleum and UAE based Gulf Petrochem.

Prior trading Denis learned base oils world in depth as an analyst and business development manager with industry leading research and price agency firm Argus Media where he worked in Moscow and Singapore offices.

Mr. Sanjay Kumar

Mr Sanjay Kumar is currently the Chief General Manager – Business Development at the Corporate Headquarters of Hindustan Petroleum, a Navratna Company. Mr Kumar has been with the company for 30 years and has directly handled Lubes for more than 12 years.

His current responsibilities focus mainly on Corporate Strategy & Business Development.

He is a much sought-after speaker, having participated in various international conferences of base oils and lubricants. He has a significant experience in dealing with base oils, additives and lubricant companies both in India and in the world.

Shailendra has in excess of 25 years’ experience in the Lubricants and Additives industry. After working with Lubrizol India for 5 years, he moved to BP/Castrol India. Later he moved to UK, as a member of global leadership team in their Lubricants division. After working for 17 years at senior leadership positions, Shailendra left BP in 2014 to start his own consultancy to work in the lubricants sector.

Shailendra has to his credit consultancy assignments with Energy Major like Petronas, ENOC, Infineum, BP/Castrol, Brenntag, HPCL, Morris, Gulf and few MNCs. He is an external advisor to Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Mr. Mohammed El Sadek

Mr Mohammed El Sadek is the ENOC Director – Lubricants Marketing, and has over 29 years of experience spanning the Retail Fuel Stations development, Electronic & Card Marketing, Commercial Fuels, Special Projects & Lubricants Production & Marketing. He started his career in EPPCO as a Marketing Executive with EPPCO Retail in early 1989.

In 1994, he was reassigned as Card Marketing Manager, with main responsibility to develop electronic marketing module to support the retail push efforts.

In 1997, he was again reassigned as a Special Projects Manager, with main responsibility to develop the retail staff accommodation & transportation system, and was responsible for the one off development of the biggest car service center for DTC.

In 1998, Mohammed was given the additional responsibility of looking after commercial fuel sales & marketing.

At the end of 1999, Mohammed was reassigned to Lubricants Marketing as the first manager to develop business access into Abu Dhabi as Lubricants Manager – Abu Dhabi, and thereafter was responsible for managing the Caltex brand sales & marketing in the territory. A year later, Mohammed was heading the marketing & sales activities for both lubricants brands ENOC & Caltex in the UAE.

At the end of 2005, Mohammed again joined the International team as head of marketing until late 2010, where he was again reassigned as Director – Lubricants Marketing looking after the full business cycle within lubricants.

Mohammed is a Business Management graduate from the Lebanese American University of Beirut, in Feb 1989.
