SINGAPORE MINISTER AND JAPAN’S METI OFFICIAL TO ADDRESS GLOBAL LNG GATHERING IN NOVEMBER

More than 200 LNG experts from 20 countries are expected to convene virtually for the 15th LNG Supplies for Asian Markets Conference (LNGA 2020 VIRTUAL) on 5-6 November 2020. With presentations from over 40 speakers and strong support from 17 corporate sponsors, the conference will begin with Ministerial Address by Mr. Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore. This is followed by a Keynote Address by Mr. Takeshi Soda, Director, Oil and Gas Division, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan.

For the first time, the organisers are pleased to announce that the conference will be conducted under Chatham House Rule*.

Organized by Conference Connection and themed “New World LNG Order: Looking Beyond COVID-19”, LNGA, now in its 15th year, is the premier meeting place where Asia’s LNG buyers and sellers converge. The LNG community can expect to e-meet a distinguished panel of senior executives from global oil and gas producers, buyers, sellers, advisors, policy makers and end users including: Energy Market Authority of Singapore; Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry, Japan; ADNOC LNG; AGL Energy; Beijing Gas Group; Cheniere Marketing; CPC Corporation; Diamond Gas International; ENN Energy; ExxonMobil; Eni Global Gas & LNG Portfolio; Inpex Energy Trading; JERA; Jordan Cove LNG; Kumul Petroleum; Kuwait Petroleum Corporation; Mitsubishi Corporation; Mitsui OSK Lines; Naturgy; NextDecade Corporation; NYK Line; Oil Search; Osaka Gas; Pavilion Energy; Petronas LNG; Santos; Sempra LNG; Shanghai Petroleum & Natural Gas Exchange; Shell; Sinopec EDRI; S&T International; Tellurian Inc; Tokyo Gas; TOTAL; Total Mozambique LNG and Venture Global LNG.

Chaired by co-chairmen, Mr. Shahriar Fesharaki, Executive Vice Chairman & Managing Director, FGE USA and Dr. Jeff Brown, President, FGE, LNGA will also feature a special LNG Veterans Panel, later the same day.

About 45% of delegates participating at the conference are from Singapore, representing Senior Executives of major power companies, government/regulatory authority, LNG trading companies, international oil and gas companies, and professionals advising the energy sector. Another 15% are from North Asia including Japan, China and Hong Kong with the rest of Asia accounting for another 8%, reflecting the region’s status as a major source of demand for LNG supplies. Two major suppliers of LNG, Australia and USA, account for 15% of attendees.

LNGA 2020 takes place at a challenging time with the LNG market going through fundamental changes, with COVID-19. Even before the virus hit, LNG markets were facing a wall of new supply, and COVID-19 proved to be the final straw. Some buyers have taken advantage of the option to cancel US cargoes, helping to rebalance the market—albeit at distressed price levels. For a few months, COVID-19 paralyzed contract discussions. But recently the price expectations of buyers and sellers have begun to realign, and activity has rekindled. However, several projects that had been progressing well towards FID have been put on hold, and the economics of some projects appear challenged.

Most importantly, after many years of talking about structural change, the coronavirus has triggered and accelerated transitions with both buyers and sellers considering how they need to position competitively in this new world LNG order. With speakers and delegates drawn from all parts of the LNG chain, the conference will deliver insightful discussion of the issues facing the LNG business in 2020/21.
